Description

The Whyalla Jetty is located on the western shore of the Upper Spencer Gulf, South Australia. The jetty was constructed in 1975/76. Originally built in 1976, it is now in a state of disrepair, such that Whyalla City Council has identified that redevelopment of the jetty is appropriate.

After extensive deliberation inclusive of community consultation, Council has completed detailed design of the new jetty. Once constructed the jetty will extend 165m from an existing marina breakwater, featuring a 45m Diameter circular walkway. The new jetty will be DDA compliant and accessible via a ramp to allow broad access to all people, to make use and enjoy the new facility. The access ramp will also allow vehicular (ambulance/police) access if required, under specific circumstances.

The new jetty is expected to support a variety of recreational activities such as fishing, walking and sightseeing.

As part of their commitment to sustainable coastal development, Council has undertaken an Environmental Assessment of the proposed works. The Environmental Assessment Report will be used to support project approvals including the development application seeking State Government endorsement.
The Contractor shall note the “Environmental Hazard Description” and “Management Controls” listed in Chapter 2 of the Environmental Assessment Report.

Potential Contractors are advised that the contract AWARD is conditional on State Development Approval. The Contractor shall note that the Contract for the Construction of the new Jetty in Whyalla will only be awarded after the State Development Approval has been received by The Whyalla City Council. The Development approval is expected by mid December 2018.

The Contractor shall take note that the stringers (universal beams and small steel in Part D5 Schedule of Prices Item 6.0 and 7.0 respectively) will be supplied at no cost to the Contractor.

The Contractor must comply with the requirements of the Work Health & Safety Act 2012 (SA), any Regulations made under it and the Council’s Work Health and Safety Policy during execution of the Services.

The Contractor must comply with the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act 1993 and relevant statutory requirements from the Environmental Protection Authority.

PLEASE NOTE:  Site facilities and storage will be discussed at the Mandatory Briefing.
