The South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) Entomology Team is seeking a supplier to supply and install a custom-built mobile facility for sterile insect production on Kangaroo Island (KI). This mobile facility, an assembly of prefabricated modular units (or modified shipping containers), will be used to produce X-ray irradiated sterile sheep blowfly (Lucilia cuprina) that will be released during the facility’s operations between 2022-2026 to eradicate this fly and associated sheep fly-strike from KI. This facility has been specifically designed by SARDI Entomology, according to requirements of the project, to produce sterile sheep blowfly by implementation of sterile insect technology (SIT), for eradication of this pest from KI. The facility is proposed to be moved off the Island, after eradication has been achieved, to then be deployed elsewhere in South Australia. Therefore, the key objective of this facility is that it is mobile, with the capability of being relocated after eradication.
