The Outback Areas Community Development Trust (OACDT), which is responsible, among other things, for the maintenance of 18 public toilets within the out-of-councils areas of Outback SA, is calling for tenders for the purchase and removal of the existing ‘pebblecrete’, tank-type public toilets at Pimba.
Pimba is situated on the Stuart Highway at its junction with the main road to Roxby Downs and Andamooka. It is 5 km south of Woomera and approx 160 km north of Port Augusta.
The toilets comprise two tank-type units. One is disposed as a female toilet with two cubicles and a hand basin and the other as a male toilet comprising one cubicle, a urinal and a hand basin. Part of the male unit is disposed as a separately-accessed, disabled toilet.
The toilets are shortly to be replaced on the same site by an information bay and tourist amenity block (including toilets) and it is a strict condition of the tender that the underground connections associated with the existing toilets are not damaged.
Work on the replacement facilities is scheduled to begin in the middle of May and there will then be a two-week window of opportunity during which the existing toilets, which will remain in use up until that time, are to be removed. The successful tenderer will be given two contracts, one within the OACDT and the other the Tourism Product Development Officer at Roxby Downs, with whom he or she can liaise in relation to the timing of the removal.
