Description

Alexandrina Council  invites Tenders from Tenderers for the provision of construction of the Bristow Smith Reserve Nature Playspace and Foreshore – Construction Project.

Bristow Smith Reserve is a significant land parcel situated on the southern reaches of the Murray River.  Currently situated adjacent to the reserve area are the Goolwa Aquatic Club, Aqua Café, boat ramp, Goolwa Yacht Club, beach swimming area, playground and several larger parcels of underutilised open space. Development abutting the reserve consists of a mix of residential properties and holiday accommodation units.

In January 2012 Alexandrina Council commissioned Tredwell Management to undertake the preparation of concept designs for the upgrade of the Bristow Smith foreshore area. Tredwell Management completed the final Bristow Smith Master Plan (Stage 1) in March 2012.  The Master Plan included the concept designs for a proposed new Nature Playspace.

During 2014, Council engaged the services of WAX Design landscape architects (& others) to provide detailed design and specification documents to enable construction of the Bristow Smith Reserve Nature Playspace and Foreshore – Construction project.

Key design outcomes include:

  • A design that draws upon the local natural environment, with the site being located within the Bristow Smith Master Plan, between Barrage Road, Goolwa and the River Murray
  • Provides for nature play - Children of all ages to be challenged by the inclusion of natural elements
  • Provides for graduated play opportunities
  • Provides for diverse, imaginative and creative play
  • Allows children to utilise all their senses
  • Non conformity to allow balance and agility development
  • Interpretative quality of play
  • Cosy “nooks”
  • Features to provide protection from southerly winds.

Council and Wax Design undertook consultation and engagement with key stakeholders including but not limited to: Indigenous groups, local community service clubs (eg Rotary, Lions Club); Fleurieu Philanthropy Foundation etc to ensure value adds from the community were maximised.
