Description
The Government of South Australia, through SA Health, has committed to the development of a new Royal Adelaide Hospital (New RAH) to replace the existing Royal Adelaide Hospital.
The Royal Adelaide Hospital will relocate to its new state of the art facility during 2016 which will involve the transfer of the remaining in-patients from the current facility to the new one which is a journey of approximately 2km along North Terrace.
The exact numbers of in-patient’s to be moved is yet to be confirmed but is expected to be in the region of 250-300. It is expected that the patients requiring relocation will represent every acuity level that the hospital provides services for. The resultant logistical challenges relating to the timings of the move and the requirements on staff, equipment and the ambulance service are expected to be complex.
To assist with the planning of the in-patient relocation the hospital proposes to test a variety of the potential move scenarios using computer simulation modelling to confirm the most suitable approach without impacting patients and staff directly.
It is foreseen that the computer simulation of the move will be fundamental to the planning and testing of the patient move elements of the hospital relocation.
Once suitable patient scenarios are confirmed they will be further tested via physical exercises and mock moves.
