Description
As part of the State Government’s support package to boost recreational fishing and tourism opportunities following the introduction of marine parks, a new trial artificial reef will be built, using mixed substrates and seeded live Native Oysters. This development will occur in north-western Gulf St. Vincent near Rogues Point to restore shellfish reef habitat and increase opportunities for recreational fishers in South Australia.
An open tender process will secure the goods and services provider(s) for the implementation of the 3.36 ha artificial reef trial, which include the supply of reef-building materials/substrates (i.e. limestone, Pacific Oyster shell and marine concrete) and construction of purpose built marine concrete structures. The awarded contractor will be required to transport and deploy the substrates and concrete structures in accordance with the approved design / layout and in accordance with the specifications. Deployment of live Native Oysters for ‘seeding’ of the reef will also be required for completion of the trial artificial reef.
