Description
The South Australian Government has committed $3.18 million to the construction of the Bundaleer Pipeline to supply water from the Bundaleer Reservoir for agricultural purposes. Matched funding is being sought from the Australian Government’s National Water Infrastructure Development Fund (NWIDF) Capital Component funding to ensure the water can be supplied at a price that is affordable for industry users.
A combined investment of $6.36 million would:
- Provide an alternative or additional water source to industry adjacent the Bundaleer Reservoir
- Accelerate and expand high quality food production in the Mid North of South Australia
- Create additional employment opportunities
- Support a sustainable and resilient agriculture sector
- Provide increased economic returns for the State’s mid north
- Encourage on-farm private investment and land development.
SA Water is seeking project proposals from the private sector for the use of this water for agricultural purposes. As there is limited water available through the Bundaleer Pipeline (275ML/year) the South Australian Government aims to ensure the development of the pipeline will deliver the greatest benefit to industry and the region.
