Alexandrina Council currently owner and operates CWMS Schemes in Goolwa, Port Elliot,
Milang, Mount Compass and Strathalbyn.  Council’s Water Industry Staff members maintain the
drainage networks within the road reserve, easements and also maintain each property’s
allotment connection up to the property boundary.  Within each property the ownership and
maintenance of the internal drains and septic tank are the responsibility of the land owner.  
Council facilitates the systematic pump out of the septic tanks connected to the CWMS
schemes to ensure that wastewater treatment infrastructures is not compromised by a build-up of
solids within the septic tanks.  The project objectives are:

• To pump out all of the household septic tanks connected to the Strathalbyn and Milang CWMS
• To pump out Council owned septic tanks both connected to the Strathalbyn and Milang CWMS and connected to onsite systems within the area.
